To be eligible for the Berner Scholarship for Students with Epilepsy, applicants must be an incoming freshman or attending an undergraduate college as a full-time student for the 2017/2018 academic school year. They must also have a diagnosis of epilepsy and reside in Illinois. This is a scholarship of $10,000 ($5,000 is a grant and $5,000 is an interest free loan that must be paid back within seven years of leaving undergraduate school), each year, freshman through senior year, for up to four years.
When sending an application, students should include their current GPA academic record, the name of the college they plan to attend, a one or two page essay regarding their community and leadership activities, how they anticipate using their college education, and any other information they believe might influence the acceptance of their application.
