Community Education Specialist

Alex Houston resides in the Western suburbs and works with the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago in a part-time role. He graduated from College of DuPage with his Associates Degree and attended Lewis University to graduate with a Bachelors Degree, majoring in Organizational Communications and a minor in Public Relations and Advertising. Alex has been associated with the foundation and actively volunteering and advocating since 2012. His personal diagnosis as a child with epilepsy due to a brain injury brought about a desire to want to learn more. As a Teen Speak Up! Representative for Illinois in Washington D.C. in 2014, he found his voice and desire for continued growth to learn, self-advocate, and advocate for those with disabilities.

He works to develop relationships with the community by sharing personal experiences and recent educational knowledge, along with the insight of living with epilepsy. Alex providesl epilepsy related trainings and presentations, specializing in both seizure training for school personnel and childcare personnel. “Epilepsy has brought challenges and impacted myself and many in my life; but it has also shown me how to extremely thankful and fortunate I am, as opportunities to learn from have given me so much to share.”
