The James Davies Scholarship

Vision:

The James Davies Scholarship is a one time $5,000 award that will provide financial support for the pursuit of higher education to students living with epilepsy. These students must demonstrate a strong commitment to their education and perseverance in overcoming the obstacles epilepsy may present.

Eligibility:

  • A rising high school junior or senior and all currently enrolled college or vocational/technical school full-time students for the 2020/2021 academic school year
  • Has a diagnosis of epilepsy
  • A resident of Illinois

Judges will evaluate the submissions and award the scholarship to a student who meets the above criteria and who best fits the scholarship’s vision. Applicants will be judged on various merits, including: how well the applicant meets the scholarship’s vision, essays, letters of recommendation, academic merit, achievement and/or community service, and financial need. 

The deadline has past for the 2020/2021 James Davies Scholarship. We will post information on the 2021/2022 James Davies Scholarship when it becomes available,

The Sara Elizabeth Stubblefield Memorial Scholarship

The Sara Elizabeth Stubblefield Memorial Scholarship is a one-year $2,000 award, and will be given to a deserving student who meets the following criteria:

  • Is under a physician’s care for epilepsy (also called seizure disorder)
  • Is a college-bound or a vocational technical school bound high school senior;
  • Lives in the State of Illinois

This scholarship was created to honor Sara’s life and her advocacy to ensure that “not another moment will be lost to seizures.” Judges will award the scholarship to the student who meets the above criteria and who best fits the scholarship’s vision.

Submission deadline: 

Applications for the Sara Elizabeth Stubblefield Memorial Scholarship must be postmarked no later than April 30 of each calendar year.

Applications shall be submitted in typed form on 8 ½ x 11 paper, printed on only one side of the page, unfolded, and mailed via U.S. Postal Service in a 9x 12 manila envelope.

Information about the recipient selection process:

The Sara Elizabeth Stubblefield Memorial Scholarship recipient will be selected by a committee of at least 5 reviewers using a point system. Applicants will be judged on various merits, including: how well the applicant meets the scholarship’s vision, essays, letters of recommendation, academic merit, achievement and/or community service, and financial need.
