A strong and resilient public health workforce is key to keeping communities healthy and one easy step everyone can take is to become certified in seizure recognition & first aid. Did you know that 1 in 10 people will have a single seizure, and that 1 in 26 people may develop epilepsy at some point in their lifetime?

Advancing health equity starts with members of your community across different sectors, such as education and housing. It also involves vulnerable populations’ access to reliable transportation and safe green spaces. Learn what Bill Green, Hart Prins Fund Accessibility & Inclusion Manager, Lincoln Park Zoo and Michael VanDekreke, LCSW, Director, Mobility Services, Regional Transportation Authority are doing to answer this call, particularly for people with epilepsy.

Access to health care remains a burden for many people, now add to that the layer of chronic disease such as epilepsy. Proper prioritization and funding to close health care coverage gaps is essential but not always feasible. We will hear about the macro lens of epilepsy public health from Dr. Brandy Fureman, Chief Outcomes Officer at the Epilepsy Foundation of America, and learn about an idea to solve this problem on a local level from Jenna Carter, MPH, Executive Director of EF Minnesota.

The 2025 Epilepsy Spring Fest 5K taking place at Jackson Park in Chicago is set for Saturday, May 17th. This year we will be celebrating our epilepsy heroes. This can be anyone ranging from a doctor, family member, teacher or someone in your support system. Registration is $25 and includes an event t-shirt!
